I’m hooked. The conference is over and I can’t stop blogging! (I also adjusted my posts from earlier today so that I appear as the author for my comments in case we have visitors who want to start up a dialogue – the musical laptop game was fun!)

the changing classroom

A decentralized network relates to complexity theory and knowledge emerging through a series of non-linear interactions, allowing for “multi-directional conversations that can occur in multidimensional spaces” (Davis, et al, 2008).

Podcasting

Kyla discusses how visual learners benefit from video in her practice-based course. I have found podcasting, modelled after the remix, to be an effective way to teach media studies. I take a television episode, re-edit it and add commentary. I try to duplicate the kind of critical analysis that is performed in the classroom. Video editing tools on the Mac make the reediting simple and quick, even for a non-video/filmmaker like myself. The next stage is to have students generate video analysis as a class presentation. Examples here.
